Resume Spam, is Alot of Work
I recently fired my agency, and can’t be happier. It seems that during this time of economic crisis, many agency are cutting back on the one thing that will push them forward. Innovation! I recently read a great article by Joe Marchese, talking about this very issue. In order to stay competitive in this game we need to be able to “fail and recover quickly”.
This all led me to start to shop myself around. I posted my resume to some job boards (not all). I applied to about 10 companies all looking for SEM help in the Pittsburgh. In a matter of minutes I was being recruited by an army of canned messages from temp agencies. Then the pseudo personalized emails from robotic plebes surfing job boards for dollars. I just wanted to put the word out that I’m available, and boom! Suddenly job opportunities in insurance sales and door-to-door “Customer Feedback Specialist”? were tapping me on the shoulder.
We have tools for email spam and security from viruses but now we need to defend our resume submissions. (This could actually turn into a lucrative market if the economy stay its course). I have to literally read each one to find out if it’s legit or not. This wastes soo much time. I will not let this deter me from my hunt, but I felt it enough of a bother to reach out about it.
