Alpha Lab and Innovation Works Summer Soiree`

Pittsburgh had a buzz all week. The New York Yankees were in town, and had lost big in their first game. While the Pirates and Yanks fought on the three rivers, some of Pittsburgh finest new minds converged on the Alpha Lab in the south side. Alpha Lab is the culmination of lots of hard work by too many people to mention, and a grass roots effort to incubate idea engineers of all digital disciplines. The real “at-a-boy” goes to Innovation Works for continuing to sew the seeds of success.

The overall feel of the Alpha Lab space is open and free. The kind of place you can develop, network or develop a network. Lavations and hors-devours provided fuel for conversation.

The recent influx of incubators and (early stage) start-up support is much overdue. The potential of Pittsburgh and their digital community, to provide the next advancements in technology can now be realized and pursued. Groups like Alpha Lab, DevHouse Pittsburgh and many others will continue to support the growth of our regions techno-talented and provide opportunity for those who dare to dream.

Breaking Wordpress the Developers Story

Development of PGHPunch usually occurs early on saturdays. Today I arrived to the office to hear from demunz, “I think I broke the blog , Help!!!.”

I give demunz credit; he has learned a significant amount about running wordpress, adding widgets, and changing themes, but unfortunately his coding skillz are not his strong suit.

So what was broken you ask… Our Video widget. demunz had attempted to customize what video would show up and he was blinded by the code. To fix the issue I reloaded the widget “daikos-video-widget” and reviewed all the options to find the missing link. As with any widget it was easier to start over and review the facts. I soon discovered the answer to the problem was within the widget sub-menu in the presentation area of the admin console. There you are able to customize your video feeds. demunz keep your fingers on the keyboard and post; leave the coding to your faithful developer skitzo.

Once the blog was fixed we commenced with tearing it back apart to improve our seo structure. I’ve added a compressed sitemap and automatic sitemap updates. I also reindexed the site within the “http://nortonconsultingenterprises.com/” search page. Another addition was the addition of a new permalink structure. Hopefully the change will improve our efforts to increase our rankings.

After another successful day please enjoy the developers efforts and check out our video sidebar. And don;t forget demunz, the code is for programmers not bloggers. =)
